This guide has been developed by the services providers to assist users understand the range of services available in areas of justice services in the ACT.

Access to Justice

For information to do with locating a lawyer, pro bono services, alternative dispute resolution, legislation, legal aid and other legal services and resources.

ACT Law Handbook Online

This website by Softlaw Community Projects Ltd provides practical legal information on: wills, intestacies, estates and funerals; buying and selling a car; dealing with neighbours; employment law; arrest; contracts; credit law and finance. A useful site for those wishing to gain an overview in these areas, its other benefit is that the content is specific to the ACT.  

ACT Legislation Register

For all legislative materials to do with the Territory. An easy to use site, the ACT Legislation Register provides access to Acts, Bills, regulations, approved forms, commencement notices, explanatory statements and other legislative information.

AustLII

The Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII) provides free internet access to Australian legal materials. AustLII publishes public legal information: that is, primary legal materials (legislation, treaties and decisions of courts and tribunals); and secondary legal materials created by public bodies for purposes of public access (law reform and royal commission reports etc).

In addition to providing a useful overview of the various levels of government, this site also provides links to legal resources such as courts, legislation and case law materials.

ComLaw

ComLaw is the authorised site for Commonwealth legislation and legislative instruments. It includes the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments (FRLI) that was established on 1 January 2005 under section 20 of the Legislative Instruments Act 2003.

FindLaw Australia

Findlaw Australia provides access to cases handed down in the last 30 days, links to legislation sites, and articles on specific legal topics. It also provides daily news stories of a legal nature and a current alerting service for new legislation and topic updates.

Jade (BarNet)

A free site to Australian court judgments and tribunal decisions. Cases are hyperlinked and searching by citation using CaseTrace is possible. A digest feature is available and an alert service may also be set up.

Law & Justice Foundation of NSW

This site is a useful gateway for Australian legislation, parliamentary materials, judgments, court lists and court home pages.

LAWLEX

Federal, State and Territory legislation can easily be located using this service. More than one jurisdiction can be searched at the same time. Also includes a useful browse function for finding legislation by subject.

National Judicial College of Australia (NJCA)

In addition to providing educational and training resources to Australian judicial officers, the College's website also includes a link to the Commonwealth Sentencing Database (a user logon is required).

Weblaw

This is a co-operative web legal indexing project providing a subject index to Internet resources for Australian legal researchers.
